we need to destroy the idea that girls should wear makeup. normalize bare faces on prom queens and flower girls and cheerleaders. no products at all instead of '7 product simple makeup routine.' no more 10 step skincare and regular facials and dermablading and gua sha just to be comfortable with yr natural face. i want to see eye bags on the funny librarian and acne on the swim coach and wrinkles on all our adult role models. i want to see a 16 year old girl that has never tried putting on eyeshadow. i want to see a 7 year old girl who doesn't have to go out and buy powder for her dance recital. i want to see trans women and girls everywhere to never have to wear makeup, regardless of how well they 'pass.' no more 'contouring to look masc' either. a post-beauty industry world is possible

+ if it wasnt clear this post is explicitly trans inclusive :]

Sorry to all of the people who had to flee book Twitter because of Elon. I can simulate it for you right here though!

Author who wrote a YA book called something like "Crown of Suck and Bone": I wish I could put my English teacher down with a bolt gun for making me read Shakespeare instead of REAL literature like Love Simon in high school

Former Ana Mardoll reply guy: This. LITERALLY this. Expecting people like me, who have synesthesia, to read Shakespeare is rooted in

Person whose profile pic is Dostoevsky w/ huge naturals: I hope the world blows up tomorrow

One thing I dont understand is that given the beauty industries aggressiveness (and capitlism in general) how have they not found a way to market makeup and other beauty products to men yet??? They could literally double their market

Like does toxic masculinity really win in a fight against capitlism? I guess so :/

Everyone reblogging this with counter examples of like queer men or punks etc. wearing makeup or the odd marketing campaign aimed at men is missing the point.

Until you see bankers on Wallstreet wearing a full face of makeup, all of those marketing campaigns have failed.

Which brings me back to my original point, in a fight between capitalism and toxic masculinity, somehow toxic masculinity wins

This is an interesting point, but I think what it really comes down to is this:

Makeup marketing is built on convincing women on their inherent worthlessness; convincing them they have a constant need to "fix themselves up."

Makeup is not, categorically, empowering, so marketing based on queer men and punks that tries to show men how empowered or free makeup can make them feel is always going to fail.

Unless we're going to start tying to convince men that their natural faces are ugly, dirty, and unkempt, and that they need a collection of pastes and powders to smear all over in order to be even remotely presentable, then we aren't going to close the gender makeup gap.

It's less about toxic masculinity making men fear wearing makeup and more about misogyny making women fear not wearing it.
